4. PUBLIC PROFILE, DIRECTORY, AND COMMUNICATION FEATURES
In Short: Inclusion in our public teacher directory is optional. You control which information is shown publicly and which communication features are enabled. You may change these settings at any time.
Our Sites include a public teacher directory and communication features designed to help members of the Kundalini Yoga community find and connect with one another. The following describes how these features handle your personal information and the controls available to you.
4.1. Public Teacher Directory
You appear in our public teacher directory only if you choose to complete the minimum required profile information and enable directory visibility. If you do not wish to appear publicly, you may keep your profile hidden through the option “Public Profile (show my profile in the public directory)” in your profile settings.
Even when your profile is public, you have granular control over which specific fields are shown. Through the “Show on my public profile” section of your profile editor, you may individually enable or disable the display of: your profile photo, the contact form, your social and web links, your phone number, and your WhatsApp button. You may change these settings at any time.
4.2. Member-to-Member Contact Form
The Sites provide a contact form that allows IKYTA members to send messages to one another. When another member sends you a message through this form, the message is stored on the Sites and a notification is sent to your registered email address informing you of the new message. You can then log in to the Sites to read and respond to the message. The recipient never receives your email address through this feature.
4.3. Visitor-to-Teacher Contact Form
Visitors browsing the public teacher directory — including those who are not registered members — may contact you through a contact form on your public profile, provided you have enabled this feature. Messages sent through this form are stored on the Sites and forwarded as a notification to your registered email address. Your email address is never disclosed to the visitor.
You may disable the visitor contact form at any time by unchecking “Contact Form (email stays hidden)” in your profile settings.
4.4. Storage and Retention of Messages
Messages sent and received through the contact forms are stored on our Sites to allow you to review your communication history. You may request the deletion of messages associated with your account at any time by contacting us at [email protected]. Messages may also be deleted when your account is terminated, subject to any retention requirements imposed by applicable law.
4.5. Responsibility for Communications
IKYTA reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that misuse these communication features, as further described in our Terms of Service and in the ‘Immediate suspension or termination for cause’ provision of this Privacy Policy.
5. INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS
In Short: Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than the country in which you reside.
IKYTA is based in the United States, and we use service providers located in various countries around the world. As a result, your personal information may be transferred to, stored, or processed in countries other than the country in which you reside, including the United States. The data protection laws in these countries may differ from those in your country of residence.
Where required by applicable law (including the GDPR, UK GDPR, LGPD, and similar regulations), we implement appropriate safeguards for international data transfers, such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, or rely on adequacy decisions where applicable. You may request a copy of these safeguards by contacting us at [email protected].

7. WHAT IS OUR STANCE ON THIRD-PARTY WEBSITES?
In Short: We are not responsible for the safety of any information that you share with third-party providers who advertise but are not affiliated with our websites.
The Sites may contain advertisements from third parties that are not affiliated with us and which may link to other websites, online services, or mobile applications. We cannot guarantee the safety and privacy of data you provide to any third parties. Any data collected by third parties is not covered by this privacy policy. We are not responsible for the content or privacy and security practices and policies of any third parties, including other websites, services, or applications that may be linked to or from the Sites. You should review the policies of such third parties and contact them directly to respond to your questions.
8. HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION?
In Short: We keep your information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this privacy policy unless otherwise required by law. Inactive accounts may be deleted after 6 months of inactivity, with prior notice.
We will only keep your personal information for as long as it is necessary for the purposes set out in this privacy policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law (such as tax, accounting, or other legal requirements). No purpose in this policy will require us keeping your personal information for longer than 1 year past the termination of the user’s account.
Inactive account deletion
IKYTA reserves the right to delete user accounts that have remained inactive for a period of 6 (six) months or more. An account is considered “inactive” when the user has not logged in, renewed their membership, or otherwise interacted with IKYTA’s services during the relevant period.
Before proceeding with the deletion of an inactive account, IKYTA will notify the user by email to the address associated with their account, providing at least 30 (thirty) days’ advance notice and the opportunity to keep the account active by contacting IKYTA before the deletion date.
Upon deletion of an inactive account, all personal information associated with the account will be deleted or anonymized, except for information that IKYTA is required to retain by law (including, without limitation, tax, accounting, fraud-prevention, or auditing obligations).
Immediate suspension or termination for cause
In addition to the inactive account procedure described above, IKYTA reserves the right to immediately suspend or terminate user accounts, without prior notice, in cases including but not limited to: (a) violation of our Terms of Service or this Privacy Policy; (b) fraudulent activity or misrepresentation; (c) use of false or unauthorized credentials, including misrepresentation of KRI certification status; (d) abuse of the communication features, including sending spam, harassing, or inappropriate messages to other members; (e) conduct that endangers or harms other users or the IKYTA community; (f) requirements from competent legal or regulatory authorities; or (g) any other circumstance that IKYTA, in its sole discretion, determines necessary to protect its interests, its users, or the integrity of the Sites.
When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your personal information, we will either delete or anonymize it, or, if this is not possible (for example, because your personal information has been stored in backup archives), then we will securely store your personal information and isolate it from any further processing until deletion is possible.
9. HOW DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION SAFE?
In Short: We aim to protect your personal information through a system of organizational and technical security measures.
We have implemented appropriate technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process. However, please also remember that we cannot guarantee that the internet itself is 100% secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal information, transmission of personal information to and from our Sites is at your own risk. You should only access the services within a secure environment.
10. DO WE COLLECT INFORMATION FROM MINORS?
In Short: We do not knowingly collect data from or market to children under 18 years of age.
We do not knowingly solicit data from or market to children under 18 years of age. By using the Sites, you represent that you are at least 18 or that you are the parent or guardian of such a minor and consent to such minor dependent’s use of the Sites. If we learn that personal information from users less than 18 years of age has been collected, we will deactivate the account and take reasonable measures to promptly delete such data from our records.
