Eligibility & Requirements

Who Can Join IKYTA

IKYTA is the professional home for KRI-certified Kundalini Yoga teachers worldwide. Membership is not open to the general public — it is reserved exclusively for teachers who hold a valid KRI certification. This ensures that every IKYTA member meets the same professional standard, and that the global directory of teachers you find here is one you and your students can trust.

The Single Requirement: KRI Level 1 Certification

IKYTA membership has one non-negotiable requirement: you must hold a valid KRI Level 1 certification — the KRI Certified Instructor of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan®.

This means:

  • You completed the KRI Level One Aquarian Teacher Training Program (220 hours) with a KRI-approved Lead Trainer.
  • KRI has issued your official certification.
  • You have your diploma in hand.

Teachers who have completed KRI Level 2 or Level 3 are also welcome — provided they hold KRI Level 1 as the foundational certification. Advanced levels alone do not satisfy the membership requirement.

Who Is Not Eligible

IKYTA membership is not available to the following:

Not eligible for IKYTA membership:

  • Teachers who have not completed a KRI Level 1 teacher training program
  • Students currently enrolled in teacher training who have not yet received their KRI certification
  • Teachers certified by other organizations (including Yoga Alliance, independent schools, or non-KRI lineages) but not by KRI
  • Teachers who completed a Kundalini Yoga training not led by a KRI-authorized Lead Trainer

This standard exists to protect the integrity of the KRI certification system and the professional trust that teachers and students place in IKYTA. We apply it consistently and without exception.

Already Certified but Missing Your Diploma?

If you completed a KRI Level 1 teacher training and hold your certification but no longer have your original diploma, you can request a reprint directly from KRI before applying for IKYTA membership.

KRI offers two options:

  • Digital certificate — USD $11
  • Printed certificate — USD $35

Once you have your diploma, you are ready to join IKYTA.

What You’ll Need to Join

When you apply for IKYTA membership, you will need to provide the following:

Required documentation:

  • Your KRI Level 1 certification (diploma issued by KRI)
  • Your full legal name as it appears on your certification
  • Your country of residence
  • A valid email address

If you hold Level 2 or Level 3 certifications and wish to have them reflected in your member profile, you may provide those credentials as well during the application process.

Not Yet Certified? Here’s Your Path

If you are currently in teacher training or have not yet received your KRI Level 1 diploma, IKYTA is not yet the right place for you — but it will be soon.

KRI-certified teacher trainings are offered by authorized Lead Trainers in countries around the world. Once you complete your training and receive your official certification from KRI, you are immediately eligible to join IKYTA.
