Biography
Ravi Kaur has 25 years' experience teaching raja yoga in Northern VA. She teaches raja yoga and meditation in Oakton and Vienna, including private classes and classes at the Oakmont Recreation Center for Fairfax County Park Authority. Under the name "Gentle Yoga with Ravi," her online, hybrid, and in-person classes include accommodations to help ensure that yoga does not become a stressor, but rather is helpful in reducing stress.
She is a certified IKYTA teacher and has taken the IKYTA level 2 courses on Authentic Relationships and on Vitality and Stress. She is also a certified Evolving Kundalini teacher and certified Radiant Child Therapist.
A PhD educational psychologist, Ravi uses her extensive knowledge of education to facilitate her instruction. She is founder and senior scholar of the Center for Educational Improvement and author on nine recent books published between 2020-2025, including:
- Cultivating Happiness, Resilience, and Well-Being through Meditation, Mindfulness, and Movement (co-published with the Kundalini Research Institute)
- Mindfulness Practices: Cultivating School Communities where Students Thrive and Flourish,

- All of these books reference a vision for heart centered schools. Her organization, the Center for Educational Improvement collaborates with others, including the Program for Recovery and Community Health at Yale University to bring about justice, equity, and compassionate school cultures. Ravi is currently offering mindfulness and meditation seminars for schools and has created "Heart Beaming" - mindfulness breaks for schools. She has also established a HeartMind Community with a monthly eNewsletter. As an educator she furthers yoga practices in a variety of ways. Ravi was trained in New Mexico and has served on the board of Miri Piri Academy in Amritsar; she was Chair of the Education Committee from 2005-2009. She also is certified in Shakta Kaur's Radiant Child Yoga. Moreover, she conducts research on bringing compassion to schools - her latest project, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, is to Indigenize compassionate school leadership.
Ravi Kaur's book with the greatest focus on bringing IKYTA's training to schools is published under the name Dr. Christine Mason and co-authored with Krishna Kaur, Dharma Atma Singh (Jeff Donald), Dr. Michele Rivers Murphy, and Valerie Brown.
In January-March 2022, KRI offered course to accompany purchase of this book.
Ravi is also offering podcasts on "Alleviating Trauma in Schools" with colleagues Jeffrey Ikler and Jesse Kohler.
In 2024 she was invited to present on Yoga in Schools in Kathmandu, where she taught K-12 students, yoga instructors, and teachers in kundalini yoga.
