Teach at solstice

HOW CAN I Teach AT SOLSTICE?

Classes at Solstice make up a major part of the Summer and Winter Solstice Sadhana Celebration experience. There are 2 application steps to teach at a Solstice event.

1. Apply to become a Solstice Teacher.  If you are accepted, you are added to the Solstice Teacher Invitation List.

2. For each Winter and Summer Solstice, we send everyone on the list invitations to submit a Class Application.  All teachers remain on the list unless they ask us to be taken off or if there is an issue with their IKYTA/KRI membership or standing. 3HO reserves the right to remove teachers at any time.

REQUIREMENTS

There are several requirements each applicant must meet to be considered, including being an active IKYTA member. Applications are reviewed and adjucated by IKYTA and the EPS Office (Ethics and Professional Standards). Once accepted, applicants are added to our invitation list for future events. New applicants must submit their application by January 15th in order to be invited to teach at Summer Solstice, and by July 15th for Winter Solstice. If you are accepted, you are added to our Solstice Teacher Invitation List.  This doesn’t guarantee you a teaching spot at any of our Solstice events. You must submit a class proposal for each Solstice event if you want to teach.

WHEN ARE THE TEACHING INVITATIONS FOR SOLSTICE SENT OUT?

Once you are on the list, you will get an invitation letter before each Solstice asking you to submit your class proposal. We choose the classes/teachers for each solstice based on a variety of needs—class themes, classroom times and availability, and number of applicants.

Invitation letters go out 5 months before each Solstice event, approximately in January for Summer Solstice, and in August for Winter Solstice. The application window is open for submissions for 1 month..

WHAT ARE THE PARAMETERS FOR DECIDING WHO IS ROTATED ON/OFF IN A GIVEN YEAR?

When class applications exceed the number of teaching spots available, we rotate some teachers off for that Solstice and put them back on the following corresponding Solstice (Summer or Winter). When someone is rotated off for one Summer Solstice, then if you apply the following year, you will be back on the schedule for the next Summer event. The same protocol applies to Winter Solstice applicants.

We encourage teachers to get involved in other ways at Solstice besides teaching a class, including leading morning sadhana, evening gong class, or facilitating other special activites. If interested, please contact us.

WHO CHOOSES THE TEACHERS AND DOES THE SCHEDULE?

The 3HO/IKYTA team is in charge of the Teacher application process and making the schedule. We meet several times to review, refine, and agree upon who and where everyone is scheduled, and who is not.

HOW DO WE CHOOSE WHERE AND WHEN TO SCHEDULE TEACHERS?

We rotate the time of day people are scheduled to teach year-to-year and look at the number of people who attended each teacher’s class in previous years to help us schedule them in an appropriate tent space. Class audio and visual requirements are also taken into consideration based on tent AV configurations.  If you have many restrictions on the days and times of day you are available to teach, the more limitations we have in accommodating your request on your application. We are usually able to accommodate most schedule requests. If there is any issue regarding your teaching status with KRI, IKYTA or EPS (Ethical and Professional Standards), you may be denied a teaching opportunity for that year.
